Medical examiner testifies that Kamarie Holland's system contained meth at the time of her death

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- The capital murder trial of Jeremy Williams moved into an abbreviated third day Thursday afternoon.

Williams is facing the possibility of the death penalty in the kidnapping, murder and rape of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland.

The s trial is now moving at a quick pace and the jury could get this case as early as Friday morning.

Wednesday was a gut-wrenching day in which the 11-woman, four-man jury – that includes alternates – watched graphic video of the brutal sexual assault of Kamarie Holland by Jeremy Williams.

Today, District Attorney Rick Chancey only called three witnesses. Circuit Court Judge David Johnson sent the jurors home before 4 and told them to come back tomorrow morning.

One of those witnesses was Forensic Pathologist Dr. David Rydzewsk, who did the autopsy. He said that there was Meth in her system. And he also testified in detail to the extent of the sexual assault.

This trial is happening despite the fact that Williams admitted to killing and raping Kamarie Holland. He has entered a guilty plea in the case, but under Alabama law to get the death penalty, a jury trial must be held.

That guilty plea – filed in the clerk’s office -- was entered into evidence today.

Chancey told the judge that he has one more witness remaining and would be prepared for closing arguments after that. Williams’ attorney Chuck Floyd said he planned no defense and would be ready to close tomorrow.

Williams told Judge Johnson that he did not want his attorneys to object to the evidence. It was the second day in a row Williams made it clear he wanted no defense put up.
