Auburn family desperate for return of sentimental charm bracelet stolen in burglary

AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) - An Auburn homeowner is issuing a heartfelt plea for the return of a sentimental charm bracelet stolen from their residence off Bent Creek Road. Though it may hold no value to others, its significance to the homeowner is immeasurable.

Investigators are still on the hunt for three burglars who unlawfully entered a home in the White Oaks Subdivision on April 29th, a Monday night. Despite capturing the crime on their video surveillance system, the suspects managed to evade search dogs and drones looking for them. Law enforcement is still diligently pursuing leads.

The silver charm bracelet, adorned with three charms, including a 1977 penny, carries deep emotional meaning. It was a poignant Christmas gift from the homeowner's parents during a time of profound loss—the first Christmas without a beloved sister, tragically lost in a car crash earlier that year. The bracelet has a cat charm on it as well.

“I know it’s a long shot, but I’m hopeful they may have discarded it somewhere. While it may hold no value to anyone else, its sentimental worth to me is beyond measure,” expressed the homeowner.

This is a similar version of the stolen charm bracelet and penny charm. The penny is dated 1977.

Additionally, the homeowner is seeking the return of a clear Ziploc bag containing silver dollars and various coins, cherished gifts from their father. They hold out hope someone may spot another person wearing the charm bracelet or in possession of the coins.

The intrusion of strangers into one's home, resulting in the theft of cherished possessions, can deeply disrupt a sense of security and peace. That’s why Auburn police say they are committed to using all available resources to investigate these crimes.  Homeowners are asked to implement the following safety measures to safeguard their homes:

  1. Invest in a robust home security system equipped with cameras and alarms.
  2. Ensure all entry points, including windows and doors, are securely locked at all times.
  3. Install motion-sensor lights around the exterior of your home to deter potential intruders.
  4. Keep valuable items securely stored, perhaps within a safe or hidden location.
  5. Consider joining or establishing a neighborhood watch program to monitor suspicious activities.
  6. Maintain visibility around your property by trimming shrubs and bushes.
  7. Arrange for a trusted neighbor or friend to collect mail and check on your home during extended absences.
  8. Exercise caution when sharing vacation plans on social media to avoid tipping off potential burglars.
  9. Consider the addition of a canine companion, known for their effectiveness as deterrents to burglaries.
  10. Remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement promptly.
