COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A longtime Columbus legislator has been elected minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives Democratic caucus.

Rep. Carolyn Hugley was elected Thursday during a Democratic retreat in Atlanta.

Hugley, a Columbus independent insurance agent, was elected to the General Assembly in 1992 and has served for more than three decades.

She replaces Rep. James Beverly, D-Macon. The Democrats have been in the House minority for nearly two decades.
