COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Choose Columbus, the new and dedicated economic development entity, has announced a new president and CEO.
Missy Kendrick, a Bainbridge, Georgia native, is assisting to bring the new organization to life by focusing on job creation and business recruitment and retention.
"There are some target manufacturers or and industries that have already been identified," Kendrick said when asked about her new vision for Choose Columbus. "So I feel like we will start there and make sure all of the development community are aware of what we're doing and what were targeting, so that we can make sure they know that Columbus is open and ready for business and to start including us when they're on the search. Then give us an opportunity to compete because were ready."
The Choose Columbus board and the development authority will be working together to attract new businesses to the Columbus area and increase the city's visibility across various, growing industries like aerospace, defense, manufacturing and information security.
“We recognize that we're operating in an increasingly competitive market requiring bold, innovative solutions to serve today’s businesses,” said Selvin Hollingsworth, Chair of the Development Authority of Columbus. “With Choose Columbus and Missy Kendrick at the helm, we are embracing that challenge and doubling down on efforts to attract businesses to the greater Columbus region.”
Kendrick brings a strategic perspective with over 30 years of experience in the field. Most recently, she was the first president of a restructured economic development organization in Rome, Georgia. Over her career, she has helped bring more than 1,700 jobs and $3 billion in capital investment to Georgia communities.
Kendrick noted family as an important reason for relocating to the Columbus area and is excited to bring success to the region.
