COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Danielle F. Forte, clerk of Superior and State Courts for Muscogee County, chatted with WRBL News 3 on Wednesday to discuss what all it takes to become a notary public and broke down the educational rules for the state of Georgia.
Forte also invited the public to her free notary training workshop in Columbus.
"It's an authorized signing agent used to verify the identification and signatures of individuals, usually for legal documents," Forte explained.
Forte went into detail on who is considered eligible to become a notary public and the importance of completing the course that are required for those interested.
"Well, you have to be 18 years old, you have to be a citizen of the United States, you have to become a notary in the county of your residence or if you live in a sister state and you work in a county in the state of Georgia, you can become a notary."
She added, "And you have to complete the required course... it's online, in order to become a notary and you have to be able to read and write English."
The free notary training is open to the public and begins on Friday at 10 a.m., while the other course begins at 1 p.m. at the Citizens Service Center, located at 3111 Citizen Way.
Forte advises that the training is on a first come, first serve basis.
