Fort Moore main access point construction to begin

FORT MOORE, Ga. (WRBL) — Those entering Fort Moore in the next weeks may need to take alternate routes. Construction on the post’s main gate, the Plumley Access Control Point 3 on Lindsay Creek Parkway/I-185, begins Thursday, June 6.

The start of construction marks the first phase of a six-phase active vehicle barrier construction project which is expected to finish in approximately the next six months.

“It’s just another added layer of security and protection for the installation,” said Shemika Berry, chief of guards at Fort Moore.

She added the new barrier will also help soldiers, families and others who live and work on post feel safer.

“It’s really not going to be that bad, but we do encourage people to use other routes to come onto the installation,” Berry said.

Berry recommends using the Grange ACP/Legacy Parkway gate, formerly known as the Benning Boulevard entrance, or other access control points.

Phase one of the construction project is set to last until June 28. During that time, the Sand Hill ACP 5A, recently renamed the Cashe ACP, will have open hours extended until 8 p.m.

Guards at the Plumley ACP will also be able to provide directions for entering through other gates for anyone who comes to the Plumley ACP while it is under construction.

Updates about the construction project are available on the garrison website.
