Sunday Conversation: CBS correspondent Jim Axelrod talks about Columbus visit, upcoming election

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod spent part of last week in Columbus reporting on a national movement to get people across the partisan political divide to have meaningful discussions.

His story was about One Small Step, started by Story Corps and its founder Dave Isay.

Between interviews, Axelrod stopped by WRBL to talk to the newsroom about journalism. As part of that visit he sat down with a wide-ranging Sunday Conversation.

Axelrod has been in the news business for 35 years and has worked for CBS 29 of those years.

Here's what he had to say about the Nov. 5 presidential General Election.

"And I think about that Tuesday, that first Tuesday in November, but for the first time in my lifetime I am thinking about the Wednesday that follows that. And what we could be in for in this country in terms of the ability to accept results -- either side. And, so, what I am hoping for is that we understand the people running our elections are the people on aisle seven of our grocery stores. And there is not some nefarious scheme out there to undermine on either side."
