Tropical Storm Debby forms in the Gulf of Mexico

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) —Tropical Storm Debby has now formed in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and will continue to track to the northeast at 15 mph. Debby is expected to make land fall along the big bend of Florida by early next week.

Forecast:
A cold front has divided the area in half for Saturday with areas north of Columbus staying relatively dry and hot with temperatures in the 90s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms from Columbus and areas south brought heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning, storms also allowed temperatures to briefly cool down as well.

This front will play somewhat of a role in our forecast on Sunday, it will stall out and bring in a few isolated showers and storms to the region. I do expect coverage to be slightly less than Saturday but the good news is that showers and storms should provide a brief break in the the heat.

Our extended forecast will depend on now Tropical Storm Debby. Current track has shifted just a little bit to the west but still making landfall across the Big Bend of Florida and then tracking to the northeast.

Majority of the rain and storms will likely stay to our east and southeast but a few extreme outer bands may reach our extreme southern and southeastern counties such as Clay, Quitman, Randolph and Sumter by late Sunday into Monday and Tuesday. It will likely breezy area wide as the system tracks to the east, expect winds up to 20 mph on Monday.
