TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — Officials with the Troup County School System are saying the "inappropriate object" brought to a local elementary school on Wednesday was a BB pistol.

According to TCSS, Ethel Kight Elementary School received report of the object being brought in by a student. Upon further investigation by law enforcement, it was determined that object was an all-plastic BB pistol — also known as a BB gun.

TCSS says while it is not a firearm, it still qualifies as a weapon by Georgia law, thereby being prohibited in school safety zones.

The school system emphasized there was never a threat to students, nor staff. Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken, the school said in its statement.
