COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) —Weather aware as we track a strong cold front capable of producing strong to severe storms overnight into Sunday morning, primary threats include damaging winds and a brief tornado.
Now through Midnight
We'll likely continue with clouds, fog and drizzle for the remainder of the evening, a stray shower or storm can't be ruled out closer to midnight but for the most part we'll remain calm. A warm front straddles the Chattahoochee Valley with areas to the north cooler and a little breezy and areas to the south warmer with temperatures near 70 degrees. This warm front will play a key role in terms of how severe storms will get overnight. If it can move further north and erode the wedge then we'll see more in terms of storms and severe weather.
Midnight-7 AM
Line of strong/severe storms will continue to track east out of Mississippi and western Alabama into eastern Alabama by 3 AM. We'll continue to watch any stray storms that develop out ahead of this main line as these may have a better chance at becoming severe. The line of rain and storms will move into the Columbus area as early as 5 AM and will eventually exit the Chattahoochee Valley by 9 AM. Again, storms may become strong to severe with damaging winds, especially within the line of storms, and a brief tornado.
After 7 AM
Storms begin to exit from west to east with clouds gradually decreasing by the afternoon, high temperatures will warm to the upper 60s to low 70s
