Columbus mayor offers council input in search for new city manager

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson gave a brief update Tuesday on the search to replace fired City Manager Isaiah Hugley

Henderson told the council that the consulting firm helping with the hire would be seeking their input in the next week.

He said the Mercer Group will be calling each of the 10 councilors. He also asked for each councilor to submit two names to fill out a survey for the consultant.

Columbus has been without a city manager since May 27. That’s when the council unexpectedly voted 7-3 to fire Isaiah Hugley, who had been in the job for two decades.

“But then, too, I think it's important enough to hire this, the council has an active role in the process. And we value their opinions. We want to find out what they're looking for in a new manager," Henderson said.

Henderson advertising for the position will begin in about three weeks.

The mayor did not give a timetable for having a new city manager in place. Henderson has to make the recommendation and the council has to approve it.
