Iya Villania sets a cooking goal: 'Maaral nang bongga ang kare-kare'

Iya Villania admits cooking isn't her strongest suit, and she "blames" her mother Elena for it.

Now the new host of GMA-7's cooking show Eat Well, Live Well. Stay Well, Iya says, 'My mom is an excellent cook.

"She cooks so well that I never felt the need to have to cook and to have to learn how to cook.

"Now that I'm a mom and now that I'm a wife, I've been challenged to be able to feed my family dishes that they enjoy, including my mom."

Talking to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and the press at the show's virtual conference, Iya shares she feels accomplished when her husband Drew Arellano and their kids Primo, Leon, and Alana compliment her for her cooking.

But it's her mom's seal of approval that truly makes Iya's day.

She tells why, "For me, kakaiba iyong satisfaction because I was never really confident in the kitchen, and it was recently when I gained this confidence...

"So, when I can cook up something and then she’s impressed, I really feel so good because it's nice that the roles have switched.

"Imbes na dati siya iyong nagluluto parati 'tapos ako iyong sobrang nasasarapan sa mga niluluto niya, ngayon it's me preparing something.

'"Tapos siya na iyong nagsasabi na, 'O, anak, ang sarap nito. Gusto ko ito, ah.'

"It's really, really, really fulfilling!"

Iya Villania's cooking goal

What is Iya's specialty in the kitchen?

The celebrity mom answers it's truffle pasta, "Iyon iyong sure hit ko."

And if there's one dish that Iya is determined to master, it's kare-kare—the way her mom makes it.

The Kapuso star says, "What I would love to learn and would make me so happy kapag natutunan ko siya at naaral ko siya nang bongga would be my mom's kare-kare.

"If I could do that, oh my goodness, that would make my whole family so happy.

"If I can cook it the way she does that would make my family happy, including my mom.

"Kasi puwede na siya magpahinga at ako na lang magluto. Kasi iyan iyong parating request namin sa kanya."

Iya wants to learn her mother's lumpia recipe as well.

The virtual conference of Eat Well, Live Well. Stay Well took place on January 7, 2021.
