Hinamon ni Senador Grace Poe ang Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) na bigatan pa ang aksyon laban sa Maynilad Water Services Inc. para gampanan nito ng maayos ang obligasyon sa kanilan mga kustomer.
Nakukulangan pa ang senador sa pagpapataw ng multa ng MWSS dahil tila balewala lamang aniya ito sa Maynila.
Sinabi ito ni Poe matapos na pagmultahin ng MWSS ang Maynilad ng P27.48 milyon dahil sa kabiguang mabigyan ng tubig ang kanilang mga kostumer sa southern part ng Metro Manila na nirarasyunan ng Putatan Water Treatment Plant.
Pangatlong beses na ito na pinagmulta ng MWSS ang Maynilad dahil sa aberya ng Putatan Water Treatment Plant. Noong 2022 ay dalawang beses pinagmulta ang Maynila dahil sa parehong problema.
“The MWSS must step up and take its role as regulator accordingly and effectively,” wika ni Poe, chairperson ng Senate committee on public services.
“At some point, the MWSS RO should recognize that its fines are not working with Maynilad,” sabi pa ng senador.
Mungkahi ni Poe sa MWSS na busisiin pa ang kanilang mga ginagawang hakbang laban sa Maynilad para matukoy kung bakit hindi naman epektibo ito.
Trabaho aniya ng MWSS Regulatory Office na protektahan ang mga konsyumer.
“Regulators are expected to primarily protect consumers and take it to heart. Maynilad customers in the south of Metro Manila have had to deal with the harrowing situation for two consecutive Christmases now. This is too much,” ani Poe.
Giit pa ng senador na sobra-sobra na ang dinaranas na hirap ng mga kostumer ng Maynilad.
“With all that declared income earned by the concessionaire as many consumers’ taps turned dry, not only do they ask why the fine remains small in relation to the extent of their suffering, but also why they have to continue to live with such inconvenience,” wika ng senador.
