Woman accused of opening fire in work transport van appears in Recorder's Court

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — On Monday morning, the woman accused of opening fire in a work transport van injuring two appeared in Recorder’s Court.

Tiyanka Williamson, 31, was arrested on Friday afternoon and originally charged with two counts of aggravated assault. On Monday, she was given four additional charges: two more counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and one count of theft by taking motor vehicle.

Investigators with CPD testified the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument in the van.

“It was stated that Miss Williamson was upset that [Redacted] was sitting behind her. At some point during argument, [Redacted] said that he would sit wherever he wanted, it was a free country," said Columbus Police Officer Bobby Jones. "At that time Miss Williamson produced a firearm and pointed directly at Mr. [Redacted]’s head. [Redacted] realized that she was about to shoot and kind of ducked to the side. When she fired the shot it went through his left ear, and struck [Redacted] that was sitting behind him in the chest.”

After the shooting, the driver of the van took everyone to Piedmont Columbus Regional, and surveillance footage shows Williamson driving off in the van with one individual still inside. The Columbus Police Officer who testified said there could be additional charges of kidnapping; however, investigators have been unable to contact the individual who was in the van when Williamson left Piedmont in it.

"This is just stupid and I feel like she did a stupid act because you didn't have to shoot him. You didn't have to bring a gun on that day because it was not that serious. He was not a threat to you. I'm trying to help people, but you made me look so bad because who is going to want to deal with me, with my business, and me trying to help people off the streets," said Maquesa Davis, business owner. "You said I did some foul stuff, and you almost killed everybody on my van because my driver, she had an oxygen tank. And if that oxygen tank would’ve went off, it would’ve killed everybody."

After the testimony, Recorder’s Court Judge Susan Henderson continued the hearing to Wednesday citing a conflict of interest as she knows Davis.
