Perseid Meteor Shower peaks tonight; Hot school week ahead

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL)-Get ready for a hot school week ahead. The good news: humidity levels will back off for a few days, helping those heat index temperatures be a but more bearable.

Meteor Shower Forecast: For all our stargazing friends, we have the Perseid Meteor Shower hitting its peak activity tonight. This means that there will be up to 80 meteors in the sky at once. The best chance to see them will be from roughly 12AM- 3AM. However, we will be dodging a few passing clouds. If you miss them tonight, don't worry, there will be another chance tomorrow. However, the show will not be as big as it is tonight.

School Week Forecast: For your Monday, expect those readings in the lower 70s heading out the door tomorrow morning. By the afternoon, highs will reach close to 100 degrees. Little wind and few clouds will bring little relief. Tuesday is set up to be much of the same: sunny and hot.

Starting Wednesday, this stalled out front lifts to our north, bringing more humidity back into the region. This will also bring the possibility of pop up storms that evening.

Next Weekend: Rain coverage will likely increase beginning Friday and will continue through the start of next week. Even though our actual temperatures will take a dip into the low to mid 90s, it will still feel close to 100 degrees at the end of the week.
