Troup County Sheriff's charge man with aggravated assault in connection to West Point Road shooting

TROUP COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — The Troup County Sheriff's Office have arrested a man in connection to a shooting that occurred on West Point Road in early August.

18-year-old William Wall was arrested by deputies in connection to the shooting of 41-year-old Nicholas Whaley on Aug. 17. Wall is being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to the Troup County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to a residence in the 7700 block of West Point Road regarding a person who was possibly shot. When deputies arrived they found Whaley suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and several other people were at the scene.

Investigators determined a group of people at the location began arguing which turned into a physical fight. Investigators say at some point during the fight Wall shot Whaley and left the scene.

TCSO says Whaley was sent to a local hospital where he is still recovering.
