Auburn man arrested after alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in Opelika

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — An Auburn man is facing multiple charges after allegedly robbing and kidnapping victims at gunpoint late Saturday night. The incident occurred on September 7, 2024, around 11:26 p.m. when Opelika Police were dispatched to a reported robbery in the 2900 Block of Birmingham Highway.

According to police, a witness informed officers the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Dshawn Raymond Seawright, was seen entering one of the nearby apartments. Officers immediately made contact with the residents and apprehended Seawright inside the apartment.

One of the victims claims Seawright had approached them outside the apartment complex,  pointed a firearm at their chest, demanding money, a cellphone, and a key fob.

A second victim reported a similar confrontation. They said they saw Seawright near their vehicle and when they approached him Seawright allegedly brandished the firearm again, forcing the victim into their vehicle. He reportedly ordered them to drive to Phenix City. However, the victim managed to escape the situation before any further harm could occur.

Seawright was arrested on the scene and charged with Robbery First Degree, Kidnapping First Degree, and attempted kidnapping.
