UPDATE: 15-year-old Troup County student arrested in connection to social media shooting threats

UPDATE 9/9/24 1:22 p.m.: A student has been arrested in relation to the shooting threats circulating social media on Monday.

According to LaGrange Police, a 15-year-old male enrolled with the local school system has been arrested. He was taken to LaGrange Police Department where he was charged through the Troup County Juvenile Court with 11 counts of felony terrorist threats.

The charges stem back to threats made through social media to shoot up eleven local school in the Troup County School System, according to police.

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — Law enforcement agencies in Troup County say they are continuing to increase patrols at local schools. This decisions comes as apparent shooting threats are circulating social media, although authorities do say no "credible threats to a specific campus" have been received.

According to a news release, LaGrange Police Department and the Troup County Sheriff's Office are working jointly to address the issue.

LPD says its investigators and detectives are trying to find the source of the social media post, and should that person be found, they will be "arrested and charged to the full extent of the law of the State of Georgia."

Patrols originally increased last week following a shooting in Winder, Georgia at Apalachee High School.
