Deere tractor driver airlifted after being hit by 18-wheeler on I-85

MACON COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) - A John Deere tractor driver mowing along Interstate 85 was airlifted to the hospital Monday morning after being struck by an 18-wheeler in Macon County. The crash happened around 7:04 a.m. near the 30-mile marker. Fortunately, the driver has since been released from the hospital and is expected to recover.

The collision temporarily shut down the southbound lanes as wrecker crews worked to clear the scene. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) responded to assist with traffic control and investigate the incident.

Authorities remind drivers to exercise caution and be mindful of roadside workers.
