Former President Trump plans Georgia campaign stop in rural Pike County

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- Former President Donald Trump will bring his presidential campaign to rural Georgia on Wednesday when he holds a faith-based event in Zebulon.

Republican Third Congressional District candidate Brian Jack, a close associate who worked in the Trump Administration confirmed the visit to WRBL. Zebulon is about 70 miles northeast of Columbus,

“I believe that this will be the first time President Trump, who has held  many events in Georgia, has held an event in the Third District,” Jack said.

The event is being called “Ballots and Believers” and will be at Christ Chapel. It is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Trump will be appearing with Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones.

Jack is facing Democrat Maura Keller in the November 5 General Election. The seat in the heavily Republican-leaning district was vacant when Congressman Drew Ferguson decided not to seek re-election after four terms.

“I am extremely excited about him coming to Pike County,” Jack said. “One of the things I campaigned on in the primary was I hoped to leverage my relationship with President Trump to gain support for our district.”

As Trump battles Vice President Kamala Harris, the Georgia race is becoming increasingly more important. Harris spent Sunday attending church services in Metro Atlanta. Most polls have the race too close to call. Both candidates have been expending significant resources in Georgia, one of seven battleground states across the country.

“Of the nine Republican leaning districts in Georgia, the Third has had the highest turnout in early voting,” Jack said. “Zebulon is an hour’s drive from Atlanta. In past elections some of the Pike County precincts voted more than 90 percent for President Trump. This trip will generate good will and increase turnout in what’s already a pro-Trump county.”
