Georgia transportation crews pre-treat roads ahead of winter weather

GEORGIA (WRBL) — From Sunday evening into Monday, crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation are treating roads ahead of winter weather.

As of Sunday, brine was applied to more than 6,000 miles of interstate. The efforts are continuing into Monday, with a total of 31 brine tankers being deployed.

Wintry conditions are expected to impact the state through Thursday. Drivers are being asked to plan ahead and limit travel as much as possible starting mid-day Tuesday.

Anyone who must travel during this time is asked to drive with extreme caution, and pay extra mind to GDOT crews. Brine trucks must travel 40 MPH to apply treatments. Drivers are asked to stay at least 100 feet back from the rear of the truck.
