NORTH PORT, Fla. (WRBL) — WRBL caught up with Cody Gabella, the manager of the newly introduced Braves Double-A Baseball affiliate here in the Fountain City.
In the shadow of CoolToday Park, the Clingstones manager spoke about his excitement for the upcoming season, Spring Training, and what it could mean for a Clingstone to be called up to the big leagues.
Gabella has been familiarizing himself with the Fountain City in anticipation for the start of the season. He said the new Synovus Park brings an added level of excitement.
Gabella is no stranger to spring training. He was picked up by the San Diego Padres in 2011 amateur draft, where he played for the ball clubs Arizona affiliate.
The Clingstones' first game of the season against the Montgomery Biscuits is set for April 4. Until then, the Clingstones are gearing up for the road at spring training in North Point, Fla. He said Spring Training is a special time in baseball and looks forward to it every year.
In addition to his minor league background, Gabella's father Jim was heavily involved in professional baseball.
Jim Gabella has scouted for the Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals), the Cleveland Indians and has been a scout for the San Francisco Giants since 2014. Jim Gabella also coached two minor league teams: the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Canton-Akron Indians.
Cody Gabella said his father has helped him a lot over the last few years as a manager and coach, and helping him reach this level in professional Baseball.
A big point of interest for fans of the Clingstones is who could be called up to play for the Braves. Gabella could not give us any definitive answers about who we are going to see on the field this season, in a Clingstones uniform. However, he did speak on what getting called up to the majors could mean for someone.
