Isang ekonomista ang nanawagan sa mga Pilipino na kuwestiyunin sa Supreme Court ang constitutionality ng Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP) program, dahil sa mga agam-agam na ginagamit lamang ito sa patronage politics.
Sa interview ng programang “On Point” sa Bilyonaryo News -Channel noong Biyernes ng gabi, sinabi ni dating Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno na ang pondong inilaan sa medical aid program ng Department of Health (DOH) ay dapat ilipat na lamang sa Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
Sa ilalim ng MAIFIP, maaaring humingi ng guarantee letters ang pasyente sa mga politiko upang maipambayad sa ospital. Ang programa ay nilikha ng DOH noong 2014 bilang Medical Assistance to Indigent Patients.
“It’s very disappointing because the idea is really to strengthen PhilHealth, and the way they are doing it, instead of strengthening PhilHealth, they do not give the amount that should be given to PhilHealth according to the law, and instead they transfer money to the MAIFIP,” paliwanag ni Magno kay BNC host Pinky Webb.
