Bilang bahagi ng pagsusumikap na paigtingin pa ang ipinaiiral na border protection measures, sinalakay kamakalawa ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang isang storage facility sa Binondo, Manila na naglalaman ng tinatayang aabot sa P10 bilyong halaga ng mga counterfeit na branded na bags, mga sapatos at iba pang produkto.
Isang composite team ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) ng Philippine National Police (PNP), at Task Force Aduana ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), ang nagpatupad ng Letter of Authority (LOA) na nilagdaan ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, matapos na tumanggap ng derogatory information tungkol sa nasabing bodega.
Ayon kay Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Juvymax Uy, bunsod ng malakas na pamumuno ng commissioner, kaya naging posible ang naturang operasyon.
“Our good commissioner has taken it upon himself to lead the agency into a new chapter where our personnel are empowered to fulfill our mandate every day. His leadership allows us to get to the bottom of these illegal activities,” aniya.
“Our BOC officials used all available resources and tools to thwart this attempt to enter such a huge amount of counterfeit items into our market. Imagine what this could do to our local producers and the foreign brands that invest in us?,” dagdag pa ni Uy.
Sa inspeksiyon sa bodega, nadiskubre ng grupo ang mga imported na assorted clothing apparel, mga sapatos, general merchandise, kitchenwares, electronics, at mga beauty products.
Ang mga naturang counterfeit items ay may infringe trademarks, gaya ng Nike, Coach, Adidas, Guess, Louis Vuitton, Dior, at Gucci, at iba pa.
Kinilala naman ng mga warehouse representatives ang LOA at pinahintulutan ang grupo na isagawa ang inspeksiyon.
Matapos na madiskubre ang mga items, pansamantalang ipinadlak at sinelyuhan ng team ang warehouse.
Nakatakda nang magsagawa ng imbentaryo sa mga naturang produkto ang itinalagang Customs examiner, at ito ay sasaksihan ng mga ahente ng CIIS ng BOC at Enforcement and Security Service (ESS).
Hihingian rin umano ang mga may-ari ng mga naturang goods ng importation documents o proof of payment ng Customs authorities.
Kung matuklasang walang kaukulang dokumento, kaagad na magsasagawa ang mga otoridad ng kaukulang seizure at forfeiture proceedings laban sa mga naturang shipments para sa paglabag sa Sec. 1400 (misdeclaration in goods declaration) in relation to Sec. 1113 (property subject to seizure and forfeiture) ng Republic Act No. 10863 o mas kilala sa tawag na Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
