Alabama ranks #45 in education, according to a study

ALABAMA (WRBL) — A study ranking each state by education levels has put Alabama in the bottom five.

WalletHub compared all 50 states using 18 different indicators of a well-educated population including educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps between genders and races.

Alabama ranked in at #45 with an overall score of 35.62. The quality of education ranks in at 36 and the educational attainment score sits at 44.

A separate study by WalletHub from 2023 took a look at the most and least educated cities. On that list, Montgomery came in at #104 while Birmingham-Hoover ranked at #82.

Over in the Peach State, Georgia had some slightly higher rankings with the state coming in at #30. Here's how the different cities ranked:

  1. Atlanta - Sandy Springs - Alpharetta at #25
  2. Savannah at #83
  3. Augusta - Richmond County at #119
