Naalarma na si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa mga nangyayaring harassment ng China Coast Guard (CCG) at mga militia nito sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“The potential for outright conflict (in the West Philippine Sea) is much higher now than it was before,” pahayag ng Pangulo sa panayam sa kanya ni Sarah Ferguson sa programa nito sa ABC-Australia.
Sinabi ng Pangulo na iminungkahi na niya kay Chinese President Xi Jinping na magkaroon sila ng hotline upang maiwasan ang posibleng pagsiklab ng gulo sa WPS.
Ginawa umano niya ito sa kanyang pagbisita sa Beijing noong Enero 2023 upang tumugon kaagad si Xi sa lumalalang tensyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China sa WPS.
“We worry in the Philippines because it could come from, not a strategic decision by anyone saying, ‘OK, we’re going to war,’ but just by some servicemen making a mistake, or some action that’s misunderstood. That’s why the ongoing attempt is always to try and lower the temperature down [when] the rhetoric is up,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos. (Prince Golez/Aileen Taliping)
