Hot week ahead as temperatures return to the mid to upper 90s

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- Last week of August is starting off pleasant and cool with some areas dipping into the mid to upper 60s while other areas remain in the low 70s under mostly clear skies this morning.

The day ahead will feature sunny skies and temperature readings returning into the low to mid 90s as high pressure continues to build into the region holding any rain chances at bay.

As high pressure builds across the region it will help temperatures soar back into the upper 90s by Wednesday and Thursday. Heat index values could climb into the lower 100s before we see another ‘cool’ down heading into Labor Day Weekend.

As the temperatures warm under high pressure we will tap some moisture across the southeast helping to fire off just a few showers and storms throughout the afternoons and evenings starting Thursday. Rain chances will continue into the weekend as a weak front approaches from the north.

August has seen a very dry pattern and only received 1.64” of rainfall. We could end the month with some very beneficial rainfall.
