Dozens of Auburn fans loved being part of the "Reverse Tiger Walk" to send off the 2024-25 Auburn Men's Basketball team to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta, Georgia.
"I am so excited. They deserve this. They've worked so hard all year long and they're so close knit. I couldn't be happier for them," said Auburn fan Sherrie Stanyard.
"This Reverse Auburn Tiger walk is amazing. The Auburn Family came out today. We were cheering. We were waiting for them to come out. The players were so gracious," said Tanja Redd.
It was an exciting event, and six years ago the Auburn faithful sent off another Tigers team to the Sweet 16. Back in 2019, the 5th Seed Auburn Tigers help to usher in this renaissance era of Auburn Basketball. J'Von McCormick, a member of that 2019 team, remembers it well.
"Man it just put a smile on my face and it gives me chills. Because I know those guys are like super excited. They're kind of on a run that we had it's look like every game is going to be a win honestly," said McCormick.
The 2019 Auburn basketball team was the first team to reach the Sweet 16 round in 16 years. They kept racking up the wins and eventually they became the first Auburn team to reach the Final Four in school history. McCormick says it help put the Auburn Men's Basketball team on the map, and other Auburn sports were flourishing as well.
"When we were there we turned things around like more of a basketball school. Then not even just for basketball. When we were going on our run in the SEC Tournament and March Madness Tournament. The guys team for baseball was doing pretty good. I think they equestrian team won a national championship as well," said McCormick.
In the 2019 NCAA Tournament, McCormick and the Tigers played spoiler for their opponents which included traditional powers like North Carolina and Kentucky. While in this March the Auburn Tigers are the top seed in the tournament, he believes they're built for this big moment.
"This season has been so good for them. They have the fans and the game is in Atlanta so it's going to be a home game," said McCormick.
And of course there's no question which team the former Auburn guard picked to win it all.
"Come on man! Is that really what we're doing here? Auburn for sure!" said McCormick.
