Dangerous heat dome continues to set up this week

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- We are tracking another round of isolated showers and storms to end the weekend. Rainfall will quickly taper off after sunset, leaving us warm and humid overnight.

Monday: A large heat dome has set up over the United States and will linger through the upcoming week. Temperatures will rise into the mid 90s Monday afternoon, with heat index readings approaching 100 degrees. A few pop up showers will be possible.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Tuesday and Wednesday remain the hottest days of this week. Afternoon highs will warm near 100 degrees. With plenty of humidity, heat index temperatures could hit 106 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

Next Weekend: Rain chances will build again by the end of the week. Depending on the timing of the storms each afternoon, this could affect our temperatures. Temperatures are expected to slowly cool back off into the lower 90s by Saturday.
