Did you know that Tanya Garcia almost worked with her husband, Mark Lapid, in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano?
Tanya reveals this in her PEP Live episode held on January 28, 2021.
She tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) of the time that FPJ's Ang Probinsyano lead star Coco Martin offered her a role.
Coco also acts as the show's creative consultant and director.
Tanya says, "Yes. Actually, oo.
“Sabi niya, ‘Gusto mo ba? Meron akong role sana…’ Meron siyang role na ibinibigay sa akin.”
Mark was part of the ABS-CBN prime-time series from 2017 to early 2019.
Accepting Coco's offer would have meant that both Mark and Tanya would be away from their family at the same time as they work on the show together. This did not sit well with Tanya.
She explains, “Kaya lang, noong time na iyon, sabi ko, hindi naman puwedeng sabay kami, sabay kaming mawawala ni Mark, di ba?
“Meron siyang dalawang role.
In the end, Tanya decided to turn down the role to take care of her kids: Mischa Amidala, 13, Matilda Anika, 9, and Madeleine Ariana, 4.
TANYA'S TV COMEBACK
Now that Mark is no longer busy doing FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano or other TV shows, Tanya can accept projects that require longer taping days.
This is why she was able to do the upcoming GMA-7 series Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat, which had a lock-in taping for the whole month of September to can the whole series.
Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat stars Pauline Mendoza, John Estrada, and Carmina Villarroel as its lead cast. It serves as Tanya's comeback series after three years.
When they first started taping in early 2020, Tanya was only supposed to do a guest role for the show. But the production was happy with her participation that she became a regular character.
Tanya says in her PEP Live interview, “Actually, dapat guest lang dapat ako dito, e.
“Noong ginawa namin iyon, wala pang pandemic. Nag-start kami early 2020, I think February, wala pa. Dapat pupunta akong States noon kasi pag summer, umaalis kami.
After the long lockdown, in September 2020, the staff of Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat called Tanya and asked if she can still resume taping.
Tanya admits that although she was excited, she also had doubts about pushing through with the lock-in taping since it meant that she would be away from her three kids for at least a month.
She recalls, “I think mga September, sabi nila magreresume na, lock in daw. So siyempre, never pa ako nahiwalay sa family ko, sa girls ko, never talaga.
“So noong sinabi nila iyon, kinabahan talaga ako.
“Siyempre, nakaka-excite na meron kang work ulit, show, pero at the same time, kinakabahan ako na parang hindi ko yata kaya kasi 3 to 4 weeks kami mala-lock in. Ang tagal kasi kailangan naming tapusin.”
But then, Mark was supportive of Tanya’s comeback and convinced her to push through with the lock-in taping.
“Kasi sobrang parang feeling ko mag-e-end of the world na ba, hindi mo alam ano mangyayari.
"Sabi niya, ‘Sige, go lang. Ako bahala sa girls.’"
TANYA ON TURNING DOWN OTHER PROJECTS
FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano was not the first show that Tanya turned down to prioritize her family life.
In the past, she had to let go of other TV projects, choosing to become a mother to her three kids than being an actress.
Tanya recalls the time she played the mother of Daniel Padilla in the 2017 fantasy series La Luna Sangre.
She points to this as an example of the short roles she is able to play, and says, “Iyong mga ganon, kaya ko kapag one or two taping days lang.
“Pero kapag minsan, three months 'tapos three times a week regular, parang hindi ko kaya.”
But Tanya says that she has no regrets about turning down projects in the past.
