Nababahala na ang 18 business group sa mga disinformation at hate speech sa social at mainstream media gayondin sa iba pang platarporma na nagpapalaganap ng poot sa marami kung kaya’t nanawagan sa mga politiko na pag-isipan mabuti ang epekto sa bansa ng kanilang mga ginagawa.
Sabi ng mga negosyante, nakita nila kung paano lumala ang pag-abuso sa social media at pagkalat ng maling impormasyon at hate speech ngayon at natatakot silang matagal maghihilom ang malalalim na sugat na dala nito.
Ang mga pang-aabusong pinupuna ng mga negosyante ay ang mga kasinungalingan, personal na atake, trolling, pagmamaliit sa kababaihan, red-tagging at iba pa.
“We call on political players to consider what they are doing to the country and to individuals, pledge not to engage in such abuse, and exhort their supporters to remain civil as well,” sabi ng 18 business group sa isang pahayag.
Nanawagan din sila sa mga operator ng social media at iba pang platform na pag-isipan din ang kanilang hinahayaang mangyari at ipaalam sa kanilang mga user at sa lahat ang mga hakbang na ginagawa para pigilan ito.
Bilang mga negosyante, sinabi nilang may papel din sila dahil gumagastos sila sa advertising.
“For our part, we realize that the business sector plays a significant role here through advertising spending. While continuing to advocate and defend media freedom, we encourage businesses to evaluate the platforms they advertise in—including social media, messaging apps, broadcast, and print—in terms of whether and how they are addressing disinformation and hate speech, which may be a factor on where businesses feature their products and services, to reflect the values of their organizations,” pahayag pa ng mga negosyante.
Kabilang sa lumagda sa pahayag ng negosyante ang mga sumusunod: Bankers Association of the Philippines, Cebu Business Council, Chamber of Thrift Banks, Energy Lawyers Association of the Philippines, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Filipina CEO Circle, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Integrity Initiative Inc., Investment Houses Association of the Philippines, Judicial Reform Initiative, Management Association of the Philippines, Makati Business Club, Mindanao Business Council, Philippine Business for Education, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Life Insurance Association, Philippine Retailers Association at Subdivision and Housing Developers Association.
Nanawagan din sila sa lahat na suriin ang mga politiko at ang mga platform na ginagamit.
