Dismayado si Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez sa kabiguan umano ni Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa na ipaglaban na mananatili sa Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) ang P90 bilyon na hindi nagamit nitong pondo sa halip na ilipat ito sa National Treasury.
“Secretary Herbosa should explain this failure, which is not congruent with his previous declaration that PhilHealth funds are for the benefit of its members,” ayon kay Rodriquez.
Nais ng kongresista na magpaliwanag ang kalihim na siyang chairman ng PhilHealth board dahil sa kabiguan nito na mapanatili ang pondo ng ahensiya.
Kasabay nito ang apela ni Rodriguez kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na ipag-utos ang pagbabalik ng naturang pondo sa PhilHealth para sa benepisyo ng mga miyembro nito.
“The President will do justice to the more than 104 million members of PhilHealth if he orders the return of the funds. The money belongs to PhilHealth members, not to a so-called ‘general fund’ of the national government,” giit ni Rodriguez.
Ayon pa sa kongresista, ang naturang pondo ay maaaring magamit para sa healthcare benefits ng mga miyembro partikular sa pagtaas ng health insurance coverage, o kaya’y dagdag pang serbisyo na kasalukuyang hindi saklaw ng PhilHealth.
“This way, it is the members who will benefit from their funds, not some personalities who would dip their fingers into the P90 billion ‘general fund’,” ayon kay Rodriquez. (Eralyn Prado)
