COLUMBUS (WRBL) - Two decades of coaching Baseball and a victory over stage-four colon cancer are just some of the accolades that Tim Fanning can be proud of. And now he can add Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Famer to the list.
Fanning grew up in the Chattahoochee Valley, and has continued to develop a terrific Baseball program at Glenwood School. Region and State titles have become a regular accomplishment for the Gators, none more special than the state championship of 2023. Fanning had battled stage-four colon cancer in the lead up to the playoffs, and his team rallied around him on the path to victory.
Fanning, always one to shy away from the spotlight, did not want the championship to be about his battle. Instead reflecting on the team's selflessness, "It just made me so proud," Fanning said. "It felt like nothing that they were doing was for themselves. And that to me is the ultimate goal as a coach."
The Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame inducted their Class of 2025, including Fanning, at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Over the next few weeks, the WRBL Sports team will be interviewing the inductees and taking a deep dive into their legendary careers.
Congratulations to Tim Fanning on his induction into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame.
