Sunday Conversation: Newly promoted CPD Assistant Chief Lance Deaton talks about mental health in law enforcement

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- Last month, 23-year Columbus Police Department veteran Lance Deaton was promoted from deputy to chief to one of two assistant chiefs.

In his new role, Deaton will oversee Patrol and Investigative Services, the two largest departments in the department.

Most recently, Deaton was in charge of the Investigative Services unit.

A recent graduate of the FBI Academy, Deaton is keenly focused on the mental health of those who serve. During a recent Sunday Conversation, Deaton talked at length about how the focus on the mental well-being of law enforcement has changed over his career.
