“I wish to clarify a statement I made in my speech before FINEX on October 7, in which I cited a report claiming that recent corruption issues had wiped out about P1.7 trillion in market value of publicly listed companies,” ani Lim.

“The information, which had been circulating within business circles and cited by some media outlets, was based on what I believed at the time to be a credible industry report.

“I have since learned that the report was fictitious. I deeply regret any confusion or concern that my statement may have caused,” paliwanag pa niya.

“My sole intent was to underscore the vital importance of integrity in our markets and the devastating impact corruption can have on investor confidence,” saad niya.

Sabi ni House Committee on Public Accounts chairperson at Bicol Saro Party-list Rep.

“While it is true that over the last three months the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) declined from a high of 6,525.04 (July 14) to a low of 5,953.46 (September 30)—an 8.75-percent drop—an objective review of PSEi movements over various timelines shows that weak fundamentals, not the flood control scandal, remain the principal reason for market underperformance,” sabi ni Ridon.

(Issa ¬Santiago/Billy Begas)
