Pinagdudahan ni House Deputy Minority Leader at Akbayan party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña ang kawalan ng suporta ng Malacañang sa panukala na magbibigay ng dagdag na kapangyarihan sa Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
“The President should have saved people’s time and effort kung pakitang tao lang pala ang gagawin niya,” sabi ni Cendaña.
“He only gave people a reason to doubt and scoff at his sincerity in fighting corruption,” dagdag pa nito.
Iginiit ni Cendaña ang kahalagahan na magpasa ng batas upang magkaroon ang ICI ng kapangyarihan gaya ng paglalabas ng contempt at hold departure orders upang mas mapatibay ang isinasagawang imbestigasyon nito.
“Mas lalo nating dapat ipasa ang ICAIC Bill to ensure that this anti-corruption campaign is not tied down by and is independent of political interests, especially that from Malacañang” sabi ng mambabatas.
Sa kasalukuyan, nakabinbin ang panukala sa House Committee on Appropriations. Sa ilalim nito ang ICI ay tatawagin ng Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption (ICAIC).
Sa isang panayam sa radyo kamakailan, sinabi ni Palace Press Officer Claire Castro na kung ipapasa ang panukala ay umaasa ito na hindi makukuwestiyon ang constitutionality ng ICAIC na ang mandato ay katulad ng ginagawa ng Office of the Ombudsman at Department of Justice. (Billy Begas)
