Naniniwala si dating Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na malaki ang kinalaman ng impeachment case laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte sa nangyaring kudeta sa kanyang liderato.
Aniya, ilang beses na rin niyang sinabi sa mga panayam na sa sandaling makarating sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay VP Sara ay agad na magko-convene ang kapulungan bilang impeachment court.
Kahit napatalsik siya sa puwesto sinabi ni Sotto na hindi nagbabago ang kanyang posisyon tungkol dito.
Ngayong nasa minorya na sila, patuloy umano nilang itutulak ang pag-convene ng Senado bilang impeachment court kapag inakyat na sa kapulungan ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay VP Sara.
Samantala, inatasan na ng Kamara de Representantes ang Office of the Secretary General na ihanda at ipadala ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay VP Sara sa Senado.
Sa sesyon ng plenaryo nitong Lunes ng gabi, Mayo 11, nag-mosyon si House Senior Deputy Majority Leader at Iloilo Rep. Lorenz Defensor na i-endorso sa Senado ang resolusyon ng Articles of Impeachment at mga annex nito alinsunod sa rules ng Kamara sa impeachment proceedings.
Inaprubahan ni House Senior Deputy Speaker at South Cotabato Rep. Ferdinand Hernandez, ang presiding officer ng sesyon, ang mosyon matapos na walang tumutol dito.
Bago rin sinuspendi ang sesyon, inanunsyo ni Hernandez ang pagwawasto sa resulta ng botohan sa impeachment complaints laban kay VP Sara.
“The chair would like to manifest that I was informed by the Secretariat of a correction in the result of the nominal voting on the House Resolution No. 989 that the body earlier adopted. The correct result is as follows: affirmative 257 instead of 255, negative 25 instead of 26, and abstentions remain at nine,” sabi ni Hernandez. (Dindo Matining/Billy Begas)
